User research

User research

We set up criteria for people who have interacted with crypto wallets, either in the past or present — Blockchain Enthusiasts or Investors, and beginners in the web3 / Crypto space — Blockchain Newbies.

We approached the research by asking these people about their past experiences with crypto wallets and their biggest challenges using crypto wallet applications.

Our aim was to understand how satisfied they are with the current crypto offerings, their motivations, and their frustrations. From this, we hoped to gain insights that could aid the design process for the Lazer wallet app.

As part of our research, we were able to reveal two major categories of potential newbies:

  1. The first-time novice user (Blockchain Newbies)

  2. Experienced users that had tried other wallet apps before i.e like MetaMask (Blockchain Enthusiasts or Investors)

We mapped out our flows and process in which a user will likely take when interacting with the app. We used a user journey map to know experiences a user will likely face when interacting with the app.

What we've learnt in the end

This was a really fun project I and a few friends of mine worked on because it provides real human value, and involved a ton of research, and detailed work.

I learned the following important takeaways from this project concerning product and business processes:

  1. Do not be overly precious about an idea. We had to go through multiple iterations of Lazer Wallet to arrive at a version that works, and it wasn’t a perfect replica of the original idea.

  2. Always have the user in mind. Never make any design decision without considering the end users of your product.
